Door Decor

By: Penny Yoder
Magic Stampin’ Bug
Beginner’s Stamping Team Designer

This project can be used to create a door theme for every holiday or season.

Supplies:
Rubber Stamps (the Angel Co.)
White Card Stock (The Angel Co.)
Small Paint Stick from Home Depot
Bordeaux Palette Ink Pad (Stewart Superior)
Burnt Umber Palette Ink Pad (Stewart Superior)
Ribbon (Michael's)
Silver Cord (Michael's)
Heart Bead (the Bead Source)
Adhesive
Screw hook (for a door)
Dremel tool and drill bit (size to fit the hook) for hanging on the wall.

Instructions:

  1. Trace around the paint stick onto a piece of white card stock, 8 1/2" x 11". Be sure to turn the stick over to trace the second piece, as these sticks are not symmetrical. (Illustration 2) They are also not exactly 11". I would suggest laying it on the card stock at an angle and then trace, in case it's a little longer that 11".

  2. Ink the edges of the paint stick and set aside. (Illustration 3) I made the mistake of not realizing the ink isn't going to dry quickly.  On the second try, I let it dry over night.

  3. In the meantime, cut out the card stock pieces and stamp them with stamps and inks of your choice. I used a Valentine's Day theme.

  4. When the paint stick is dry, adhere the card stock to each side of the stick. I antiqued around the edges using a Burnt Umber ink pad to give it a little 'old' look and tone down the whiteness of the card stock.

  5. Drill a hole at the top of the paint stick.

  6. Cut the ribbon 18" and the cording 5". Thread the cording through the heart and tie a knot.  I used a little glue on the knot so it would stay in place. Thread the ribbon through the silver cord and tie the ribbon around the paint stick.

  7. This can be hung on the front door or on a wall. I thought I'd try one of the larger paint sticks and hang photos on it. Experiment with other ideas. Enjoy!
