Petal Shape Book

By Mary Shoebridge
Magic Stampin Bus
Beginner’s Rubber Stamping Team Designer

I selected a Posies theme and a Petal Shape for this book.  Other shaped book projects can be made using different supplies available from Creative Imaginations.  Bare Elements, also, has a complete line of chipboard and other items that can be decorated with stamping and paper embellishments.  This is a truly enjoyable paper crafting experience!

Supplies:
Pretty Posies Stamp Set (TAC)
Classic Alphabet Stamp Set (TAC)
Acrylic Mounts (TAC)Noir Black, Chartreuse, and
Viridian Leaf Palette Hybrid Inkpads (Stewart
   Superior, Corp.)
1 Bare Elements Petal Shaped Book (Creative
   Imaginations, LLC.)
1 Metal Book Ring the kind the opens and closes (Stationery Supply Store)
6-8”x8” Squares of Tutti Frutti Decorative Scrapbook Paper (TAC)
6-8”x8” Squares of Coordinating Cardstock Colors (TAC):

Assorted Colors Chalk Pencils to match the decorative papers (Schwan-Stabilo)
Blender Pen No 00 (Tombow)
Markers: Lavender, pink, orange, and green (Tombow)
Sponge Brush
Basic Tools:
Scissors, regular and fine tip
Bone folder (Ranger)
Ruler
Circle Cutter (Creative Memories)
Cutting Mat (Creative Memories
X-Acto Knife
Scotch Glue Stick (3M)
Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue (Duncan Enterprises)
1/4” and 3/8” Assorted Craft Ribbon in matching colors

Instructions:

1.  Gesso each petal page of the book; there are six pages.  Coat one side of each petal page and let dry. Then do the other side along with the edges and let dry.

2.  Choose 6 coordinating papers from the Tutti Frutti Collection.  Cut the selected paper  to size 8” by 8”.  Also, cut petal pages from the solid colored cardstock the same size and set aside. For the cover, use the paper with the posie motif.  Cut a 4” circle from the pink cardstock.

3.  Apply glue to the gessoed petal page and then turn the decorative paper pattern side down and press the petal onto the paper.  Be careful to center the petal on the paper.

Place the paper side down on the cutting mat and trim around each section with the X-Acto knife.  You can also trim each petal with fine tip scissors if that is easier.  Be sure to cut out each punched hole with the X-Acto knife.  Complete each petal page like the first one.  Next, adhere each of the colored cardstocks to the back of each petal page and trim each to the petal shape and trim around each.

4.   Stamp the flower images on the white cardstock and, also, stamp the leaves with the green inks.  To do this, ink the leaves image with the Chartreuse ink first and then swipe a little of the Viridian ink on top and stamp on the paper.  Stamp the title “Blossom Book” with the Noir Black ink pad using the individual letters from the Classic Alphabet set.  Apply color around each letter with the Tombow Markers. Color the flowers with the chalk pencils and blend with the clear Tombow marker.  Trim around each of the words in the title and ink around the edges with the lavender marker.  Cut out the posies and leaves close to the edge.  To complete this step, glue the leaves to the pink circle first and then glue the posies.  Glue the decorated circle to the cover and then glue on the title.

Designer’s Note:  Only the cover has been done in this project.  Additional stamped flower images could be added inside the book and along with journaling.

5.  Assemble the blossom pages in the order you prefer.  Slip the metal ring through each hole in the petal and shut the ring closed.  Attach assorted ribbons around the ring.
