Flaps and Pockets
One Flap Card

By Mary Shoebridge
Magic Stampin’ Bus
Beginner’s Rubber Stamping Team Designer

The use of the flap makes a unique card.  Additional flaps could be added to the card by tracing the flap more than one time and gluing in place.  Several techniques have been introduced in this project, which can be applied to future stamped creations. The use of tags is a great way to stamp and decorate paper.

White grosgrain ribbon to dye

Instructions:

1.  Cut the purple cardstock to card size according to the template provided.  Fold the card in half crosswise and then fold the flap down to the card front.  Also, cut the patterned papers to size 8”x8”.  Place the flap template on the stripe paper and trace around it with a pencil.  Cut the flap out.  Cut the polka dot paper 4 1/4” by 5 1/2”.  Glue the decorative papers to card with the glue stick.  Make the card front first and then the card flap.  Place the piece of patterned paper on the flap and glue in place.  Then fold the top edge of the flap to the inside of the card and glue securely to the card.

2.  To cut the White Shipping Tags:  Take one tag and use it as a template.  For the larger tag, take a tag and mark a dot 1/4” from the bottom.  Place the template tag on top, trace around it and cut off the excess paper.  Do the other 2 tags using this technique.  For the smaller tags, measure a dot 1/2” smaller, trace the tag, and trim with scissors.  The 3 tags should measure: 1-2¼” and 2-1 7/8”.

3.  Stamp the tags with the girls in hats images using the India ink Black.  Color with the colored pencils to coordinate with the patterned paper and blend the color with the clear Tombow Marker.  Sponge some color on each tag around the edges using the Jardin Moss, Iris and Claret ink pads as shown in the sample.

4.  Stamp the saying “Friends fill…” with the India Ink Black pad on the white cardstock.  Trim with scissors close to the lettering and then round the corners.  Designer's Note: Here is a method for rounding corners:  Use the template tag, trace the tag corners on the corners of the saying with pencil and then cut each corner out.  Sponge some of the Iris ink on the saying.  Glue the saying to the stripe card flap.

5.  Punch a hole in the middle of the flap using the Crop-a-dile.  Use the 3/16” hole punch and set the eyelet with the Crop-a-Dile eyelet setter.  It’s so easy, and there’s no hammering.

6.  The next step is to attach the tag to the flap with the lavender ribbon.  The stamped image of the girl with the polka dot hat band was used.  To create the lavender ribbon, take a 4” length of white grosgrain ribbon and color with the Wisteria marker and blend the color with the Tombow Marker.  If the color is too strong, take a sponge, wet it and blend out the color. Set aside to dry.  This is a great way to color ribbon to match colors in patterned papers.  Attach the tag to the flap with the lavender ribbon.  Tie it through the eyelet.

7.  Staple the pink and turquoise ribbon to the other tags using the gold staples. Glue the tags in place on the card.
