Wired Wrapped Domino Hanger

By Mary Shoebridge
Crafty Cruisers
Intermediate Stamping Team Designer

Working with dominos is yet another way to utilize your stamps.  Sunday International has a terrific set of images specifically for domino stamping. Creating a one of a kind art object is easy by simply stamping, coloring and embossing a design. Embellishing with wire makes your project even more unique.  Domino art makes great gifts or stand alone curio pieces!

 Supplies:

  • Oriental Lady Image (Sunday International)
  • Brown Waterproof Ink
  • Top Boss Clear Embossing Pad (Clearsnap)
  • Domino Bracelet Kit LD04 (Sunday International) or
  • Drilled Dominos two holes top and bottom Domino Size 1”by 2”.
  • Very Fine Sandpaper or Sanding Block
  • Ultra Fine Tip Sharpies a variety of colors (Sanford)
  • Q-tips for blending colors
  • Clear Embossing Powder (JudiKins)
  • Heat Tool (Marvy Uchida)
  • Copper Colored Wire 22 Gauge  (Jewelry Supply)
  • Jewelry pliers (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Copper Leafing Pen (Krylon)
  • Beads for Embellishment-coordinating colors Peach and Jade (Michael’s)

 INSTRUCTIONS

1.    Place domino on a work surface and sand lightly.

2.    Stamp desired image on domino using Waterproof brown ink.

3.    Color the design with the Sharpies and blend the colors with the Q-tips.

4.    Heat set the domino with the Embossing Gun.

5.    To give the domino a protective coating, emboss the top.  Ink top of domino with clear embossing pad, sprinkle on the clear powder, and emboss with the heat gun.  One coat should be enough.

6.    Finish edges by applying copper leafing pen according to package directions. Let the domino dry.

7.    Wrap the Domino with the copper wire. Take a long piece of the wire, twist it near the edge of the domino, and bring the wire up to the top and bend into a design. This hanger has a leaf motif. Use a cuticle stick to make curlicues. Wrap the bottom of the domino next.  Pull another piece of long wire through the holes and twist around the bottom.  Create a wire design by bringing it into the middle and twisting firmly. Separate the wires and attach the bead while knotting in between. To end the wire, twist and poke it back into the bead hole.

8.    You can hang the domino by the two leaves of the hanger.
