Rubber Cement Backgrounds

By Lori Ronnerud
Magic Stampin’ Bus
Newbies Stamping Team Designer

Have you ever played with rubber cement to create a background for stamping? It was one of the first techniques I learned and still love to do. You can make all different kinds of “shapes” but I seem to prefer the one squiggle line. But go ahead and play to see what works best for you!

Under the Weather

Supplies:
Tear drop from Bitty Babies stamp set (TAC)
Saying (PSX)
Luau Kaleidacolor ink pad (Tsukineko)
Fabrico White ink pad (Tsukineko)
White Glossy cardstock trimmed to 5½” x 4¼” (TAC)
Medium Blue cardstock, 5½” x 4¼” (unknown)
White cardstock, 5⅜” x 8¼” (TAC)
Rubber Cement (Elmer’s)
White Detail embossing powder (Ranger)
Mono Adhesive (Tombow)
Milwaukee Heat Gun
Brayer (Spe
edball)

Instructions:

1. Brush rubber cement onto cardstock as desired; allow to dry (about 30 minutes).

2. Ink up brayer on K-pad. Cover glossy cardstock with ink, repeating as necessary to get the intensity of color you want. Let dry for 5 minutes.

3. Fold white cardstock in half. Attach to blue cardstock using Mono Adhesive.

4. Take a paper towel and wipe the ink off of the rubber cement. Rub the rubber cement off the cardstock with your finger. I take a clean part of the paper towel and rub over the area to make sure I got all the rubber cement off.

5. Stamp tear drops (rain drops) with white fabrico ink randomly over brayered cardstock.

6. Stamp saying and emboss with white detail embossing powder. Heat to set.

7. Trim brayered cardstock to 5¼” x 4”. Attach to folded white cardstock using Mono Adhesive.
