Homemade Alphabet Stamps
By
Becky Lemire Have you ever searched for
the perfect alphabet stamp only to find that they don't come in the sizes you
want? They don’t have enough letters that you need in the set to stamp a word
all at one time. They don't come in the font that would be just perfect or in
the price range you can afford! I'll show you how to make your own alphabet
rubber stamps at home. Using your computer, your favorite font, a printer and
some foam sheets, you can make your alphabet fonts to fit your every need. If
you have a die cutting system, you can use alphabet dies to make your own foam
stamps also. Supplies: Project: Instructions: 2. Using a pencil, trace around the outside and inside edges of all of the letters you just printed out. 3. Flip paper face down onto the foam sheet and scribble with the pencil over the back of all the letters to transfer the image onto the foam sheet. The letters will be the mirror image. 4. Cut out all letters using
a craft knife. If you cut carefully, you can make yourself a negative and a
positive alphabet set all from this same foam sheet. Two for one is always a
great deal!!
5. If you used a foam sheet that already has the adhesive on the back, you can just go ahead and start stamping using an acrylic block or wood block. If you used a regular foam sheet, you can use double stick tape or a tacky glue (a glue that doesn't bond, just stays tacky) to attach to acrylic or wooden blocks. Also, you can adhere the letters to wood blocks using a permanent adhesive. Project: 2. Cut a piece of the striped background paper to cover the lower left corner of the frame. Don't worry about the center of the frame (where the picture goes) as you will cut that out once everything is adhered. 3. Tear the top left corner and the bottom right corner of the blue boy background paper to fit on the top left and bottom right corners of the frame. 4. Once the white paint is dry, adhere the striped paper to the bottom left corner of the frame using Perfect Paper Adhesive and a foam brush. Adhere, in the same way, the two corner pieces of the blue paper. See photo for placement help. When the glue has dried, trim the paper to the inner and outer edges of the frame using a craft knife. 5. Using sandpaper, sand the edges of the paper and the frame. This will help even out any edges of the paper that were uneven after trimming and will give it a worn look. 6. Lay your letter stamps on an acrylic block to form the name, ink up with blue inkpad and stamp in the upper right corner of the frame. 7. Apply two coats of Perfect Paper Adhesive using a foam brush over the entire front of the frame to seal the papers. 8. Adhere the blue ric rac to the top of the frame and adhere the striped ribbon around the outer edge of the frame. Cut the ends of the 4" piece of striped ribbon at an angle and fold over as shown in photo. Push a blue mini brad through the ribbon and flatten the wings. Glue this piece to the right side of the frame. See photo for placement. If you would like to print this technique including a near-full size image of the layout, click here.
