Faux Pewter Accents

By Wanda Troupe
Hot Rod Scrampers
Advanced Scramping Team Designer

You may love the look of pewter for some layouts, but not want the weight of actual metal embellishments. Safety may be another concern when deciding whether or not to incorporate different metal accents on your layouts. Creating your own custom faux pewter embellishments may be much easier than you think. There are a couple of different ways leading to similar results. Using a melting pot is a quick, easy method to melt UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) and coat the accent. If you don’t have a melting pot, it’s still easy but takes a bit more time.

Supplies:
Alphas & Corner image (Making Memories)
Small Alphas (PSX)
Paper (Provo Craft – Slab VI)
White Cardstock (Georgia Pacific)
Platinum UTEE (Suze Weinberg)
Versamark inkpad (Tsukineko)
Thin Cardboard
Brown Marker (Creative Memories)
Fiber (Hand Dyed Hobbies)
Pink & Brown Acrylic Paint (Plaid)
Foam Brush applicator
Metallic Rub-ons (Craft-T Products)
Word Stickers (Simple Scrapbooks)
Large Flower Punch (EK Success)
Small Flower Punch (Family Treasures)
Corner Rounder (Creative Memories)
Silver Brads (Making Memories)
Regular Hole Punch
Heat Tool (Uchida)
Scrappy Glue (Magic Scraps)
Mounting Square Adhesive (Scrapbook Adhesives)
Personal Paper Trimmer (Purple Cow)

Instructions:
1. Trim photos as desired; round corners with punch; mat with white cardstock leaving about 1/8” border.

2. Cut a 2” strip of pink paper; adhere to background paper. Stamp corner images using light brown acrylic paint. Stamp title at bottom of background paper using pink paint. Outline with brown marker.

3. Cut tag from brown cardstock. Punch small flowers from pink, blue and orange scraps. Attach flowers with silver brads. Punch hole to thread fiber. Place word stickers on tag as desired.

4. Glue photos and tag to background.

5. Punch flowers from thin cardboard. Apply Versamark covering entire front of flower. Apply Platinum UTEE to flower and tap off excess powder. Heat with heat tool to melt. Reapply Versamark and UTEE for two or three coats, until the desired effect is reached. Apply Silver Blue Metallic Rub-on using finger; wait a few minutes, then buff with paper towel. Glue faux pewter flowers to pink strip with Scrappy Glue.

Voila! That’s it!! If you’ve never tried this technique before, I hope you will after seeing how easy it is. These flowers really do have a metal appearance in real life. You may also use various colors of UTEE or embossing powder for different looks. Use your imagination and create away!
