Flipped Out Flipboards
By Stephanie Loomis
I coined this name when my friend Melissa Baldwin came up with a similar concept to the clipboard with a bonus. I have tweaked the original concept to make this board—which is both artistic AND practical. It is a wonderful back-to-school gift for teachers.
Supplies:
1. Paint clipboard red. 2. Stamp salsa flowers with cognac ink over edges of the clipboard (both sides).
3. Adhere large piece of pattern one paper to clipboard front.
4. Spray acrylic sealer over both sides of the clipboard. (I use at least three layers.) 5. Attach 1 ¼” strip of patterned paper to 4 ½” piece of solid paper. 6. Spray both sides with acrylic. (This will become a pocket on the clip side of the board.) 7. Add decorative brads. 8. Attach pocket to clip side of board using O-So Sticky tape (1/4”) along three sides (bottom and two short sides) 9. Fold scored solid paper at score lines and wrap over top of notepad. 10. Put O-So Sticky tape along the top edge of 11 ½” pattern one paper. Line up over notepad to be sure the whole notepad front is covered. Attach patterned paper just under solid paper. 11. Stamp “notes” on solid paper using cognac ink and Alpha-Grunge stamps.
12. Spray with acrylic sealer. 13. Add decorative brads.
14. To attach notepad to notepad cover so that it can be
replaced, cut a hair elastic and use a combination of
15. Cut slits in the cardboard backing of the notepad to allow it to slide behind the elastic.
16. Attach hook and loop tape to back of notebook cover—not the notebook itself. Attach other side of hook and loop tape to the back of the clipboard. Once done, the board officially becomes a flipboard—because it is flipped from one side to the other depending on use (clip side and notepad side)
17.
Wrap a pen in O-So sticky tape (1”) and roll in
copper and red microbeads. 18. Use O-So Sticky tape to attach one end of ribbon to the pen cap. 19. Cut the ends of one of the Cha-Cha tags and attach it to the pen cap covering the ribbon. Wrap O-So Sticky tape around the outside of the tag. Roll in clear microbeads. (The reason for attaching the ribbon by the cap is that the pen can be replaced, but the cap still matched the board.) 20. Tie the other end of the ribbon to the spring mechanism bar of the clip. Show off your brilliant work!
