                                                HOW TO MAKE PASTE PAPER

Supplies:  (For Paste Paper)
Note:  Make the paste a day ahead of decorating the papers

Water, cornstarch, whisk, small plastic containers, stirring sticks, paints, acrylic clear papier finish gloss
Freezer paper
7 cups water
1 Cup cornstarch (Grocery Store)
2 tablespoons glycerin (Pharmacy)

Instructions:

  • Make slurry (a diluted solution of paste) by mixing 1 cup of cold water with 1 cup of cornstarch.
    Boil 6 cups of water.

  • After boiling, turn down the heat, and whisk the slurry while on the stove.

  • Remove from heat and keep stirring until smooth. (NO LUMPS)

  • Whisk in glycerin.

  • Pour into plastic container.

  • Let cool, cover and leave out over night.

Decorating the Paper:

Prepare a work surface using freezer paper, or a covered drawing board.

Mix the colors you will use from the paints suggested below.  Use small plastic containers (pudding cups work well).  Stir until blended.  To have strong colors use a spoonful of paint per color.

Supplies:

Paper Towels
Paint Brushes
Paste
Paints:
Vintage Wine, Burnt Umber, Cayenne, Antique Gold, Leprechaun (Cermacoat Acrylic Paints by Delta
     Technical Coatings ~ Michael’s)
Autumn Leaves, Medium Orange  (FolkArt Acrylic Paints by Plaid Enterprises, Inc. ~ Michael’s)
Acrylic Papier Glass Finish (FolkArt by Plaid Enterprises, Inc. ~ Michael’s)

Instructions:  (Grown Up Finger Painting!)

1.      Place the tan paper on your work surface.

2.      Take the different paints and apply a coat of each color to the sheet.  Smear with a paint brush or mix with you fingers.  Do a layer of gold, rust, green, brown, and purple.  Let dry for a few minutes and then stamp your leaf images using the Charcoal Leaves set.  If you think that the images are to faint, you can stamp over them with the Charcoal Leaves using the different colors of Palette inks.  Let dry.  Then give the paper a coat of the clear paper finish.

3.      Set aside.

4.      Make several sheets and there will be some leftover for other projects.

“Falling for YOU!” Hanger

1.      Cut Rust Cardstock 8½”x11”.

2.      Tear triangles from the. Trace the triangle shapes from the provided template onto heavy weight vellum. Tear out each triangle and trace these shapes onto the sheets of handmade paste paper, the rust background sheet, and the striped sheet with a stylus and tear out each section.

3.      Glue the torn paper triangles to the rust cardstock starting with the Winchester background paper.  Then glue down the paste paper.  Leave some rust triangles behind the decorative triangles.  In the middle of the page, glue a triangle made from a strip of the Winchester striped paper with the background paper. Let dry and then glue in place.

4.      Trace the letter on the striped paper and cover the chipboard letter “F”. Trace around the slide mount frame onto the striped paper and cut out around the outside of the frame and the center. Glue in place.  Cut a small rectangle from the striped sheet.  Center the letter on the back of the rectangle and glue to paper.

5.      Stamp the “Fall Fling” saying using a strip of vellum that has been stained with the rust and brown inks.  Rub some color on the vellum and let dry.  Use the chunky open lowers to stamp the saying.  To make the letters appear more solid, use the make-up applicator to apply some Palette inks between the lines.  Crop close to the letters with scissors.

6.      Collect some fall leaves and tape to a sheet of white printer paper. Photocopy the leaves onto the yellow paper. Cut out one of the leaves and use it to hand-write the journaling message with the Marvy Le Plume pen fine tip brown pen, underline the words with the Micron Rust pen.

7.      Glue Green mesh over the papers.  Then the “Fall Fling” Saying.

8.      Place the photo in the slide mount, glue closed; attach it and the chip board letter, using the glue stick, to the page.

9.      Embellishments.  Using some details from the alphabet sheet, add them to the scrapbook page.  Also add words from the fall words sheet from Flair Designs.  Check the art work to make sure all the edges are firmly down.  If necessary, use some tacky glue to make everything flat to fit in the frame.

10.  Place in Scrapbook Frame hanger and tie on the ribbon.

This completes the scrapbook page hanger.  There are several other page frames in different sizes and shapes and are available on line at www.scrapbookframe.com.
