Monochromatic Stamping

By: Mary Shoebridge
Crafty Cruisers
Intermediate Stamping Design Team

Two Projects: Card and Decorative Hanger

Nature themes are one of my favorite Stamping motifs. The two projects presented together combine 3 Stamp Sets and similar supplies to create a card and decorative hanger. The card project features monochromatic stamping and the use of a special paper finish mixture to add sparkle to the design. This technique can be applied to other stamping. The Decorative Hanger uses a “Stamping Under Glass” technique. Embossing used in this way creates a glass like object. It appears transculent. It is enjoyable to create more than one craft while you have all your supplies ready and at hand.

CARD

SUPPLIES:
• Arboretum Collage (TAC)
• “Believe” Saying from Be Authentic (TAC)
• Leaf Image from Nothing is Better (TAC)
• Jardin Moss Palette Hybrid Inkpad (TAC)
• Two Sheets each of Dark and Light Medium Green Cardstock from the 8 ½” by 11” Monochromatic Cardstock Pack Greens (TAC) Note: There is a range of five colors: the light paper is between the lightest color and the medium green, the Dark green is the last one and darkest paper
• Papier Glass Finish Folk Art Plaid Enterprises, Inc. (Michael’s)
• Metallic Peridot Acrylic Paint Folk Art Plaid Enterprises, Inc. (Michael’s)
• Lime Stickles (Ranger)
• Tools UHU glue stick (Michael’s) Scissors Mini Stapler
• #5/0 and #1 Round Paint Brushes Loew Cornell (Michael’s)
• Paper Trimmer
• Tri-Color Green Ribbon (Michael’s)
• Scratch paper and a surface to mixed a small amount of paint
• A heat resistant surface for embossing like a masonite panel

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut Dark Green Cardstock to Card size 5 ½’ by 4 ¼” from one sheet and a smaller piece from the other, size is 3 ½’ by 3 ½”. Cut Lighter Green to sizes: 4” by 5 ¼” and

3 ½” by 3 ½”.

2. Stamp the background on the light green cardstock. Ink up the Arboretum image with the Jardin Moss Pad. Have some scratch paper handy and underneath the paper. Stamp the image off on the scratch paper and then on the light green paper. Repeat this step until the paper is filled. Ink both the saying and leaf. Stamp three leaves at the bottom and then stamp the saying “Believe” on top of the leaves. Stamp within the bottom inch of paper.

3. Stamp the Paper Tile. Ink the tree again with the Jardin Moss and stamp the image in the center of the small square. Tear the edges close to the image border.

4. Combine a mixture of Papier Finish, small amount of Metallic Peridot paint and lime green stickles. Use the small paint brush to embellish the tree, border, and leaves. Try to add a lot of glitz to the tile.

5. Staple the folded ribbon on the left corner of the tree tile image.

6. Take the small square of dark green cardstock and glue the tree to it at an angle. Glue the background paper to the dark green card. Then attach the dark green square on top. This completes the Card project

DECORATIVE HANGER with the Same Botanical Theme Technique “Stamping Under Glass”

SUPPLIES:
• Use the same stamp sets, ink and paper as in the Card Project above.
• The same tools can be used for this project. Brushes, scissors listed for the card
• Celery Scrapbook Colors Acrylic Paint (Making Memories)
• Wood Plaque size: 3 ¼” by 4”
• Emboss Pad (TAC) and Clear Embossing Powder (TAC)
• Marvy Heat Tool (TAC)
• Awl, Hammer, and Small block of wood to punch the holes in the wood. Take the plaque measure in with a ruler approximately a ¼” and mark with a pencil. Place the plaque on the wood block. Using the awl and hammer make the holes for the cord embellishment. Hammer gently at first to make a hole and then twist a little and hammer a bit more. Twist the awl until you have the size needed about an 1/8”
• Thick Designer “Tacky Glue” Duncan Enterprises (Michael’s) and a popsicle stick
• Multi-colored Green Cord (Michael’s)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Paint the wood plaque with the Making Memories Celery paint.

2. From the light green paper left from the card project cut a square 3 ¾” by 3 ¾”. Stamp on the Arboretum image on the paper with the Jardin Moss ink. Below this stamp the saying “Believe” and two leaves. Tear the edges close to the border and ink the edges with the Jardin Moss. Set aside.

3. Take the plaque and stamp on a background. Ink the tree image and stamp off on scratch paper then on the wood. Do this step in all four corners. It should meet in the center of the top and bottom of the plaque.

4. Glue the stamped image to the Wood Plaque. Use the popsicle stick to spread the glue, this works really well.

5. Place the wood plaque on a safe embossing surface. Using the embossing pad cover the entire image with ink. Sprinkle on the clear powder and emboss with the heat tool. Do this procedure 3 times. It should resemble “stamping under glass” which is a good name for this technique.

6. Let the embossed plaque cool. Make sure the holes in the plaque are clear after the embossing procedure. Use the awl to clear any powder that is left.

7. To embellish the plaque, tie a knot in one end of the cord. Pull through the hole on the left side and then tie a bow in the cord and then bring down and through the other side. This step completes the Decorative Hanger.

You now have two projects to share and enjoy.
