Garland Advent Calendar

By: Becky Lemire
Off-Road Inksters
Intermediate Scramping Team Designer

This advent garland can be used on your Christmas tree or on a garland that you hang over a doorway or across a mantle. The idea of this garland is that it starts out with the centered numbers facing out and each day until Christmas you will flip one circle coordinating with the day to reveal the decorated stamped image or special picture on the other side. There are so many ways to decorate so many circles. In my instructions I will outline the way to decorate the first five.

Instructions:
1. Using the chipboard, punch fifty 2 1/2" circles. Using different papers from the Blitzen collection punch 25 - 2 1/2" circles. Punch 25 - 2 1/2" circles from red cardstock. Punch 25 - 2" circles from a paper from the collection (all the same design). Cut a piece of the red/white striped ribbon about 105" in length.

2. Gather up 25 of the 2 1/2" chipboard circles, the red cardstock circles, and the 2" circles. Adhere the red circles to the chipboard circles and center the 2" circles in the center. Stamp the numbers 1 through 25 in the centers of each of these circles using black ink. Set aside.

3. Gather up the remaining 25 chipboard circles and adhere the Blitzen collection circles to each one. Using black ink and the Alpha Tags numbers stamp a number (1-25) on each of these circles placing the numbers in different spots on each circle.

4. Circle one: Stamp snowman onto the circle using black ink. Fill in the snowman using the white Liquid Appliqué. When the appliqué dries, use a heat gun to puff up the appliqué. Color the strip across the snowman's hat using Lime glitter glue.

5. Circle two: Add color to the puzzle piece using a red ink pad or paint. Cut a photo to fit on the small puzzle piece and adhere it. Trim the photo to fit the puzzle piece. Stamp the mini holly randomly on the puzzle piece and on the circle. Go around all the edges of the puzzle piece using a gold leafing pen. Adhere the puzzle piece to the circle and add a piece of faux holly to finish the circle.

6. Circle three: Stamp the ornament using Sky Blue Brilliance Ink. When dry, outline the ornament with a blue glaze gelly roll pen, outline the cap and hook of the ornament with gold glitter glue and decorate the ornament using lime glitter glue. Stamp the saying in black ink onto the circle. Stamp the "joy" onto the circle using Versamark and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.

7. Circle four: Cut out a photo about 7/8" square. Adhere that to a 1" square of blue paper and then to a 1 1/2" square of red paper. Trim the red square with decorative scissors. Adhere the blue, green and double sided ribbon to the back of the photo piece and glue the whole piece onto the fourth circle.

8. Circle five: Using a 1" circle punch, punch out a picture from a kid's Christmas story book. Tape this piece inside the center of a squashed bottle cap. Run a bead of red glitter glue around the picture inside the bottle cap. When dry, fill the bottle cap with Crystal Lacquer and set aside to dry. When dry, glue a piece of green gingham ribbon to the back as shown in the photo and adhere the entire piece to the fifth circle.

9. Once you have finished decorating all of the circles, it is time to assemble. Lay out your length of striped ribbon and start positioning the back circles (the ones with just the numbers) along the ribbon to your liking. Using tacky glue adhere the circles to the ribbon. When this has dried, you are going to adhere the decorated circles on top of the coordinating numbered circles (wrong sides together) using very strong tape or glue. Remember to put the decorated circles opposite the numbered circles so that when you flip each day over your design won't be upside down.
