Layered Embellishments

By: Bea Rosenleaf

Have you ever purchased paper for a project only to find that it screamed at you to create something entirely different? When I got this floral paper out to begin my project I kept looking at it and thinking of my grandmother. The roses and the color reminded me so much of her that it ended up in a tribute to her. I like to think it is something she would be pleased to see.

Craft Sheet (Ranger)
2 Gold Brads (Unknown)
Photo of Loved One
Word Processing Program and Computer (I use Microsoft Word)

Directions:

1.  Cut green cardstock to 8" x 10". This will be your base. Save remainder of paper for later on.
2.  Ink up the "Love" stamp with the beige ink and stamp repeatedly across the bottom of the green cardstock.
3.  Ink up "Sweet Memories" with the green ink and stamp on the lower right corner of the green cardstock.
4.  Cut pink mulberry to 8" x 5" and attach to the top edge of the green cardstock.
5.  Cut piece of green grosgrain ribbon to fit across layers. Use adhesive runner on back and attach to layers of green cardstock and pink mulberry paper.
6.  Using the Oval cutting system, cut layers of remaining green cardstock, floral paper, and green vellum to frame your photo. Layer and attach to background. Measure a piece of gold trim to fit around the frame. Using Crystal Lacquer, lay a thin bead on the trim and attach around the frame.
7.  Using your word processing program, type a title. Mine says Feb. 1899 - Minnie Holdaway Heisey - Sept. 1988. I used a script font and played with the layout until it fit the size of oval tag I wanted using plain paper. Once I got the layout to fit and look the way I wanted, I printed it on the green cardstock, then centered the oval template over the wording and cut it out to create the oval tag.
8.  Cut an oval slightly larger than the green oval with the words. Cut around the flowers using an exacto knife to create a frame for the green oval to slip into. Cut two slits on each side for the ribbon to fit through.
9.  Run green ribbon through the slits in the oval tag, fold under and attach a brad on each side to hold the ribbon together. Use adhesive runner on the backs of the ribbon and attach to the top of the pink mulberry paper.
10.  Cut out several of the roses on the floral paper. You will need enough flowers to surround your oval frame in a pleasing manner, and to create a second layer on some of them to create depth and a 3-D embellishment look.
11.  Take some of the roses, set on craft sheet and outline them with the Crystal Lacquer and quickly sprinkle glitter on them. Let them dry. When dry they should peel right off the craft sheet.
12.  Lay the flowers around the frame until you get a look you like. Attach to the frame.
13.  Now taking remaining flowers, match them up to the flowers already attached. Use the 3-D dots to adhere to the backs of these roses and then stick to the flowers they match up with. If the dots are too large, you can cut them smaller with your scissors.

Place your tribute in the frame and give as a gift or proudly show off in your own home!
