Heated Pearls                      Flowers in Vase  ◊  Sassy  ◊  Kokopelli

By Lori Ronnerud-Guimond

How many ways have you used Pearl Ex?  Well, here is new way to apply it.  Warning, have plenty of time to do this because it is addicting!  You will need lots of scrap paper, too.

With this technique, every piece of cardstock will come out different. So it will vary what stamps/theme you use with each piece.  I didn’t really care for the interference or duo colors, but that is just my personal opinion.  This technique is so awesome in real life because of the texture it creates.  Scanning doesn’t do it justice.  I don’t think cards made with this technique would go through the postal system well because of this texture.  The effect is changed dramatically when flattened (so be careful how you attach it to the cardstock).

General Supplies

•  Black glossy cardstock, Ό Sheet (5½” x 4 Ό”) trim later if needed
•  One or two colors of Pearl Ex (Jacquard)
•  Elmer’s glue (white liquid)
•  #8 Stipple Brush
•  Small container with warm water (to wash the stipple brush)
•  Old towel (to dry off the stipple brush)
•  Lots of scrap paper to work on since glue gets on each piece
•  Heat tool (Milwaukee)

General Instructions:

The intention is to get colored bubbles on the cardstock. So you want to use enough glue.  If you use too little you won’t get the texture.  On the other hand, using too much will make the bubbles get too big and collapse.  So experiment to find “just the right amount” of glue for you.Squirt Elmer’s glue onto the glossy black cardstock.  Take the #8 stipple brush and smoosh (technical term ~ LOL!) the glue evenly all over.  Lightly sprinkle one or two colors of Pearl Ex over the glue.  Take the stipple brush again and smoosh the colors all over the cardstock.  Heat with heat tool to create a bubbled texture.  After it’s cooled, trim to 4” x 5Ό”.

Flowers in Vase
Supplies:

•  Best of Buds stamp set (TAC)
•  Glossy Black cardstock; Ό Sheet (5½” x 4 Ό”)
•  Chartreuse colored cardstock; ½ Sheet (5½” x 8½”) fold in half, trim off 3/16” on one landscape and one portrait side
•  Scrap of purple cardstock
•  Scrap of chartreuse cardstock
•  Turquoise & Sparkle Copper Pearl Ex (Jacquard)
•  VersaMark (Tsukineko)
•  Black Detail Embossing Powder (Ranger)
•  Glue Dots (Therm-O-Web)
•  Mono Adhesive (Tombow)
•  Paper Crimper (Fiskars)

Instructions:

1.    Attach the trimmed, folded half sheet of cardstock to the Ό sheet of glossy black cardstock with Mono Adhesive.  Mount the heated pearls background to the folded cardstock by applying Mono Adhesive to the folded piece of cardstock and not the heated pearls piece.

2.    Stamp vase of flowers with VersaMark on scrap of purple cardstock.  Cover with Black Detail embossing powder.  Heat to melt the embossing powder. Trim to 1½“ x 3.”

3.    Use crimper on scrap of chartreuse cardstock (2½” x 4½”).  Trim length to 3½“ and attach stamped purple scrap using Mono Adhesive. Mount this onto your Heated Pearls piece using glue dots.

Sassy

Supplies:

•  A Little Bit Sassy stamp set (TAC)
•  Pink cardstock; ½ Sheet (6½” x 9”) fold in half (Bazzill)
•  Coordinating pink background paper (DCWV)
•  Scrap of white cardstock
•  Scrap of blue metallic paper (2½” x 4”)
•  Scrap of black glossy cardstock (2½” x 4”)
•  Duo Red-Blue Pearl Ex (Jacquard)
•  Noir Black Palette Hybrid Ink (Stewart Superior)
•  Prismacolor Pencils (Stanford)
•  3-D Puffy Glue
•  White fun flock (Ranger)
•  Glue Dots (Therm-O-Web)
•  Mono Adhesive (Tombow)
•  Deckle Scissors (Fiskars)

Instructions:

1.    Attach untrimmed heated pearls background to folded pink cardstock by applying Mono Adhesive to the folded piece of cardstock and not the heated pearls piece.

2.    Using the deckle scissors, trim the blue metallic paper to 2Ό” x 3Ύ “.  Attach this to the scrap of Black Glossy cardstock with Mono Adhesive.  Mount this onto the untrimmed heated pearls background with glue dots.

3.    Stamp lady with Noir Black ink on scrap of white cardstock.  Trim to 1⅞” x 3 Ό”. Color skin area of lady with flesh colored pencil.  Color hair, shoes & lips desired shade.  I colored the plume on the hat with a medium pink color.  Mount onto blue metallic paper with Mono Adhesive.

4.    Apply puffy glue to plume and then cover with white fun flock.  Let dry naturally.

5.    Stamp lady with Noir Black Palette ink onto coordinating pink background paper.  Cut out dress and hat.  Attach to image on white scrap with Mono Adhesive.

6.    Stamp saying with Noir Black ink onto bottom of pink cardstock.  Because these are unmounted stamps, I cut the blocked saying apart to stamp it all as one straight line.

Kokopelli
Supplies:

•  Kokopelli stamp set (TAC)
•  Glossy Black cardstock; (6½” x 10”) fold in half
•  Copper metallic paper, (4½” x 5Ύ”)
•  VersaMark (Tsukineko)
•  Turquoise Pearl Ex (Jacquard)
•  Sparkle Copper Pearl Ex
•  Mono Adhesive (Tombow)
•  Glue Dots (Therm-O-Web)
•  Southwest Corner Punch (Marvy)

Instructions:

1.    Attach copper paper to folded glossy black cardstock with Mono Adhesive.  Attach the heated pearls background to this applying Mono Adhesive to the copper piece and not the heated pearls piece.

2.    Stamp Kokopelli with VersaMark on the scrap of glossy black cardstock.  Cover with Sparkle Copper pearl ex. Wipe excess off with a sheet of Swiffer (the dry kind of course!).

3.    Punch all 4 corners with the Southwest corner punch.  Attach Kokopelli piece to the heated pearls background with glue dots.
