Evaporated Milk Stamping

This technique will make beautiful Christmas cards, especially if you are going for a rustic look.  The card that I did to demonstrate the Evaporated Milk Technique turned out to be a rustic, traditional Christmas card using reds and greens.   

A little warning:  I don't recommend doing this technique near a smoke detector  because you are burning the milk with a heat tool. (I learned my lesson after I set mine off - and I wasn't even cooking). 

Supplies:

•  Holiday Wreath (TAC)
•  Mini Wreath Stamp Set (TAC)
•  Pine Tree Dye Ink Pad (TAC)
•  Rustic Red Dye Ink Pad (TAC)
•  Landscape Palette Hybrid Ink Pad (Stewart Superior)
•  Garden Green Cardstock (SU); cut to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and 3 1/4" x 4"
•  Rustic Red Cardstock; cut to 3 1/2" x 4 3/4"
•  Birch Cardstock (TAC); cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" and 3" x 3"
•  Evaporated Milk (any brand)
•  Heat Tool (Marvy)
•  Foam brush
•  Scotch Double Stick Tape (3M)
•  Tacky Glue (Aleene's)
•  Rustic Red 1/4" gingham ribbon  

Instructions:

1.     Cut all cardstock as stated in the supplies section.   

2.     Brush evaporated milk over wreath stamps (a small and a large one) and stamp randomly on the large piece of aspen cardstock.  Using a heat tool, heat the evaporated milk image until it starts to turn brown.  Remember to be away from a smoke detector for this.  Ink up the same stamps with the two different green dye ink pads and stamp over the milk wreaths that you just browned to add some color. 

3.     Ink up a large wreath stamp with evaporated milk in the same manner and stamp in the center of the 3" x 3" square of aspen cardstock.  Brush some evaporated milk around the edges of the square also.  Heat with heat tool until browned.  Stamp over the browned wreath with the green ink pads.  Ink up the "Merry Christmas" stamp with Rustic Red ink and stamp around the edges of the square.  Ink up sentiment for the center of the wreath with Rustic Red ink and stamp in the middle of the wreath. 

4.     Adhere the wreath square to the smaller piece of green cardstock as shown in photo.  Tear along the bottom edge.  Adhere this to the red cardstock and tear along the bottom edge.  Brush some evaporated milk on the torn edges of the green and red pieces and heat until browned.   

5.     Attach the wreath background to the front of the green card.  Attach the main wreath piece to the wreath background as shown.   

6.     Tie a bow using the red gingham ribbon, trim to desired length and glue to the bottom center of the large wreath.
