GLOSSY OPALSBy
Lori Ronnerud-Guimond
Supplies: 1. Take 2 pieces of Black Glossy cardstock (5 ½ x 4 ¼) and put drops of Opalite re-inkers onto 1 piece of cardstock in random order. You can use just one color or many depending on your taste. 2. Place second piece of cardstock over this one (face to face). 3. Smoosh together and twist or slide the cardstock if desired. 4. Lift one corner to separate the 2 pieces of cardstock. If you like how it turned out, allow to dry then mount and layer as desired. If you want more ink coverage, add a few more drops of re-inkers and smoosh again. You can also turn one piece of cardstock to get better ink coverage or to mix the colors more. If you have too much ink, use a new piece of black glossy cardstock with each piece and smoosh to use up some of the ink. 5. Take a small piece/scrap of vellum. Pounce the X-Static pad on it. Stamp desired image onto vellum with VersaMark. I used gold embossing powder on the translucent vellum. Heat until powder is melted. Tear or cut vellum close to image. Trim edges of glossy opal cardstock as desired. (Usually the ink doesn’t make it all the way to the edges.) I trimmed ¼” off the 2 long edges and lined with the gold Krylon pen and a cork-backed ruler. Cut 2 small pieces of vellum tape and apply to the vellum then attach that to the glossy opals cardstock. Mount this onto a half sheet of black cardstock cut to size 5 ½ x 8 ½ that is folded in half with a bone folder.
6. Trim the glossy opals cardstock ¼ “ on the long sides and ¾ “ on one short edge. Cut apart in random order (triangles work well). Mount these onto a half sheet of black cardstock 5 ½ x 8 ½ that is folded in half. Take a small piece of gold vellum and pounce with X-Static pad. Stamp desired image with VersaMark. Apply black embossing powder and heat. Tear vellum close to image. Cut 3 small pieces of vellum tape and apply to the vellum then attach that to the glossy opals cardstock. Stamp saying on the bottom of the black cardstock below the glossy opals cardstock in gold ink. Tips: You can’t see the shimmer of the ink in the scans, but it is awesome in real life. Please note: white glossy cardstock will NOT work, it just gets glued together. If you would like to print this technique, click here.
