Goddess Looking Glass

By Shauna Faith Brom
Trailblazers
Paper Arts & Multi Media Team Designer

All women have an inner goddess! Sometimes we’re so busy doing for others we lose touch with our beautiful essence.  This project not only serves as a reminder, but also adds a bit of style to your dresser or bureau. Oh, and yes, you can actually use it as a mirror!  Of course, you can decorate it as your own inner goddess directs.

Supplies:

•  Mini Star stamp (Rubber Stamp Tapestry)
•  Black StazOn Ink, (Tsukineko)
•  Hand mirror (dollar or discount store)
•  Silver Vellum (Marco’s Paper)
•  Woman with mirror parchment image (Altered Pages)
•  Goddess and moon transparency image (Altered Pages)
•  Decorating Chalks, Classic Glimmers (Craf-T Products)
•  E-Z Chalk Enhancer
•  Sponge Tip Applicators
•  Mica Tiles (US ArtQuest)
•  Word Stickers (ColorOasis,The Hamptons Phrases)
•  Word Transparency (Magic Scraps)
•  Sparkle Yarn, white (One and Only Creations)
•  Mini Square Mirror (Darice)
•  Rainbow Fluorite Chip Strand, 36” (Hobby Lobby)
•  Small Purple Cabochon (Westrim)
•  Silver Charms-Mirror, Moon & Star, Woman (Marco’s Paper)
•  Copper Goddess Metal Plate (Scrapbooks By Design)
•  Diamond Glaze (Judikins)
•  Hairspray or Spray Fixative
•  Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cut paper to fit center section of mirror back. Randomly stamp stars over paper. Let dry.

  1. Using sponge applicators, apply various colors of chalk in a random fashion. I used pink, blue, green, lavender, and pearl.  Dab on chalk enhancer (medium) and then add more chalk.  Blend so the color is subtle. Once again, stamp a few stars over chalk.

  1. Dab chalk medium on parchment image and color with chalk using desired colors. Spray with hairspray or spray fixative.

  2. Repeat chalk coloring for transparency image. For the transparency I used medium and chalk on the front and back to intensify color a bit.

  1. Put a thin amount of Diamond Glaze on back of paper and smooth down on back of mirror.

  1. Lay fluorite chip strand around outside of paper so that it will go around twice to audition where you may need to cut strand. Carefully cut where needed. If strand is long enough to remove a few chips, do so and set aside.

  1. Using Diamond Glaze, apply very thinly to images and the word transparency “reflect”. Add “your inner” stickers.

  1. Once again using a thin layer of Diamond Glaze, apply copper “Goddess” plate and silver “Woman” charm.

  1. Apply a small amount of Glaze to mica piece and place over the stickers “your inner”. Randomly drop very small dots of Diamond Glaze as though falling from goddess hand. Quickly place a fluorite chip in each drop of Glaze.

  1. Just above transparency image adhere small square mirror then purple cabochon on center of square.

  1. Apply a short 2”-3” strip of Diamond Glaze just on outer edge of paper and carefully lay fluorite strand on Glaze. Continue around the edge so that there is a double row of stones all around outside of paper.

  1. Cut about 2-3 ft. of Sparkle yarn and wrap around handle just at base of mirror. Tie on leaving some length to tie on mirror and moon/star charms.

Admire your artwork then turn mirror over and admire your lovely Goddess self!
