How many uses does clear
nail polish have? Well, there is base coat and top coat for nails, stopping
runs in nylons, but the newest way I’ve found to use it is in my stamping. The
more I look around the house, the more things I find to use for stamping. I
love it when an item can be used in lots of versatile ways.
With this technique,
every piece of dipped cardstock will come out different. So it will vary what
stamps/theme you use with each piece. I always do multiple dips but you must
clean out the remaining nail polish each time, or it will give you gunky spots
on your cardstock and you probably won’t like that; I know I didn’t. This
technique is really awesome when you see it in person. Scanned photos of these
creations does not do this technique justice.
General Supplies:
• Sally Hansen
Clear Nail Polish
• Shallow tray/pan with warm
water
• Dark colored cardstock (I used
black), ¼ Sheet (5½” x 4 ¼”) trim later
• Long handled clamping tweezers
• Butter knife
General Directions:
I use one of the plastic
containers that stamps come in that is bigger than a ¼ sheet of cardstock. Fill
to about 1” deep with warm tap water. Place piece of dark cardstock in water
and weight down so it stays on the bottom. I like using long handled clamping
tweezers on one corner and a butter knife on the other end of the paper. Put
1-3 drops of clear nail polish in the water. It really does have to be Sally
Hansen Clear nail polish; other brands just don’t seem to work. Wait a few
seconds and watch it spread color like an oil slick. Bring dark cardstock up
out of the water catching the oil slick. Let dry. Place under heavy object if
paper curls too much.
Haunted House Card
Supplies:
• Haunted stamp
set (TAC)
• VersaMark (Tsukineko)
• Colored cardstock; ½ Sheet
(5½” x 8½”) folded in half
• Glossy Black cardstock; ¼
Sheet (5½” x 4 ¼”)
• Black Detail Embossing Powder
• Heat Tool (Milwaukee)
• Mono Adhesive (Tombow)
• White Prismacolor Pencil
(Sanford)
• Slotted corner punch (EK
Success)
Instructions:
1.
Stamp haunted house with VersaMark. Cover with Black Detail embossing
powder; heat to melt. Let cool and then color in moon & windows with white
colored pencil. Since there was an “open” spot where I didn’t get nail polish,
I placed my haunted house in the bottom right corner.
2.
Use slotted corner punch on glossy black cardstock in the top corners.
Mount the embossed piece in the slots. I like to put adhesive on the glossy
part between the corner punches. Then, I put adhesive on the on the backside of
the embossed piece near the bottom. (Note: I tend to use more adhesive with
this technique because the cardstock isn’t as smooth so it doesn’t like to lie
down unless it’s “stuck good”. LOL!)
3.
Mount this onto your folded half sheet of cardstock.
4.
Given that I didn’t want to cover up any of the effects from the nail
polish, I printed the saying on my computer (Matisse ITC font) in white letters
on black paper and mounted it below the haunted house.

• Small square blue brad (Making

Stamp jets with VersaMark. Cover with silver detail embossing powder and

the jet trails.

the heat gun to set the ink faster.
