Styling Gel Card

Karen Gibson

Stamping Team Designer

Styling Gel…It’s not just for hair anymore!

Supplies:

•  Fishy Friends Stamp set (Stampin’Up!)
•  Simple Shapes Stamp set (Stampin’Up!)
•  Simple Sayings II Stamp set (Stampin’Up!)
•  Ink: Mellow Moss, Ballet Blue, Basic Black (Stampin’Up!)
•  Jet Black StazOn ink
•  1 - A2 size card: one half sheet cardstock folded in half (Stampin’Up!)
•  1 - ¼ sheet cardstock for inside layer. (Stampin’Up!)
•  1 Ziploc baggie (sample used 4 ¾ x 3)
•  Hair gel (sample used blue hair gel)
•  Pencil with new eraser
•  Coluzzle cutting mat, blade and oval template
•  Scotch Double Stick tape (3M)

Instructions:

1.    Using Coluzzle, center oval template on A2 size card (opened), and cut an oval. The oval must be smaller than the size of the Ziploc bag being used. Center oval template on ¼ sheet cardstock and cut oval one size smaller than the oval cut on the A2 size card. This will create a layer, and cover the edges of the Ziploc bag.

2.    Stamp image on outside top of Ziploc using Jet Black StazOn ink. Let dry. Do not use dye-based ink on the Ziploc as it will not dry. Fill Ziploc with hair gel.Don’t over fill, or the card will be too puffy.

3.    Center the stamped gel pack to top of the inside layer and tape down using double stick tape. Be careful to tape only the edges of the Ziploc bag. You will not want the tape to show through the opening on the card. Set aside.

4.    Stamp the front of the card. Try this: Take a solid shape stamp and roll just the out side edges in ink then stamp on the card. Leaves a soft outside image of the stamp. The smaller bubbles on this card were made using a clean new eraser on the end of a pencil. The eraser was also used to stamp the bubbles on the inside of this card. See the image in step 1.

5.    Take the inside layer and adhere it to the inside front of the card.

Other ideas to try. Create a gel card with lots of different stamps. On the snowman card, I stamped the circles then cut the inside part out using a hobby blade. You don’t have to always stamp an image with on the outside of a Ziplocbag. You can stamp your images on the inside card and let them show through the bag. I like the extra dimension you achieve when stamping on the outside Ziploc. You can also add some glitter in with the hair gel for extra sparkle.
