Stamping on Wood Veneer
By
Becky Lemire Supplies: • Tools Stamp Set
(TAC) Instructions: 1. Cut all papers as directed in the supplies list. 2. Sand one side of a piece of shrink plastic up and down and right to left. Attach hammer stamp from the Tool stamp set to a 3" x 3" acrylic block. Ink stamp up with Black StazOn Ink Pad and stamp on the unsanded side of the shrink plastic. Clean stamp. Repeat with the saw stamp. When dry, color in the tool images with colored pencil on the sanded side. Cut out tools with a pair of scissors close to the edge of the images. Using a heat tool, slowly heat the plastic until it shrinks and lays flat. When using a heat tool to shrink the plastic, it is better to hold it farther away and heat very slowly. If it gets too hot too fast, the plastic will curl up and stick to itself. 3. Lay the 2 1/2" square of wood veneer over the black side of the slide mount die. Place the sizzix pad over that and then flip so the pad is on the bottom. Put into the Sizzix die cutting machine and press out the die cut. 4. Ink up just the word "Home" from the Express Yourself stamp set with the burgundy pigment ink. Stamp on the bottom of the wood veneer slide mount just cut. It is best to use pigment inks for stamping on unfinished wood as it will not bleed through the grain of the wood. Clean and dry the stamp really well. Ink up just the "is where your story begins" on the Home stamp with the pigment ink and stamp onto the center of the white cardstock. Trim the white stamped cardstock to fit behind the slide mount so the saying is centered in the window. Spray some walnut ink over the white cardstock to age a little. When dry, attach to the back of the slide mount using a thin layer of glue. 5. Attach the shrink plastic tools to the top corners of the slide mount as shown in photo using glue. 6. Ink up the "Best Wishes" stamp from Great Greetings stamp set with burgundy pigment ink. Stamp three times across the thin strip of wood veneer. Tear the sandpaper on the top and bottom so you have a piece about 1 1/2" high by 4" wide. Attach the veneer to the piece of sandpaper using glue. See photo. 7. Tear the right side of the Blue Print paper and tape to the left edge of the weathered wood paper. Where the two pieces come together towards the center, put a screw head tack on the top and bottom. Place the papers onto a mouse pad and press the tack through the papers. Turn papers over and press down the prongs using a bone folder or some other hard flat tool. 8. Tape the background papers to the center of the tan card. Tape the sandpaper piece towards the bottom of the card and tape the slide mount in the middle of the card. See photo for exact placements.
