White Crayon Resist Highlighting
By
Wanda Troupe I thoroughly enjoyed playing with this month’s technique! If you haven’t tried crayon resist before, I hope these instructions will show you how simple it is and inspire you to get out that white crayon and create! By the way, this resist method will work with any color crayon. Using a white crayon gives you a highlighted look. Experiment with other colors and see what you come up with! (*Note: For more information on the size and source of my book, refer back to the March calendar page – Versamark Resist technique).
Supplies
Instructions 1. Print calendar from desired source. I used Printable Calendars (http://www.printable-calendar.com/) since they were a good size to fit on my page. Before printing, I added birthdays and holidays; you may do this by hand or on the computer. Highlight special days with small rectangle shadow stamp from Rugged Shadows stamp set using lavender ink. Trim with paper trimmer as closely to edges as possible leaving room for matting. Mat with light blue cardstock positioning calendar close to top of mat. Punch for corner punches from lavender cardstock scraps and glue to corners of calendar. 2. Stamp butterflies using Black Brilliance ink onto glossy cardstock scraps. Using a white crayon, place marks on or around the images where you would like highlights to show up. Brayer over butterflies using Kaleidacolor pad. Wherever you have used the white crayon, it will resist the ink and show up as a highlight. Cut butterflies out with scissors. 3. Stamp butterflies randomly on 3”x9-7/8” pink cardstock using pink ink. Glue to top of right page. Glue calendar to right page aligning at bottom, which should overlap pink strip. 4. Stamp various background or shadow shapes on 3”x7” white cardstock using pink, blue and lavender inks. Mat with light blue cardstock leaving ¼” border. This will become your “NOTES” tag. Cut 1”x2” piece of pink cardstock from scraps; fold in half and glue to top of tag. Punch hole using ¼” hole punch and attach gold eyelet; thread fiber through eyelet. Using small alphabet stamps and black ink, stamp the word “NOTES” at top of tag. 5. Stamp butterflies randomly on lavender cardstock (8½”x9-7/8”) with lavender ink. Glue to top of left page. Stamp butterflies on pink strip (4-1/4”x9-7/8”) using pink ink. Glue to bottom of left page on three sides, leaving top open for pocket. 6. Trim pictures to desired sizes (most of mine are 2-1/2” square except the larger one on the pocket which is 3-1/2” square). Mat with accenting colors leaving 1/8” border and glue to your calendar. Glue cut out butterflies to desired places, reserving one small one for your tag. Place tag in pocket! That’s it! Another calendar page complete!
