Paper Bag Book

By Mary Ellen Harrison
Off-Road Inksters
Intermediate Scramping Team Designer

These little books, made from simple lunch sacks, are so versatile and VERY fun to create!  You can make them as elaborate or as simple as you would like.  You can choose to cut slits in the bags to add more tags, photos, etc…   I love mini books for scrapbooking as they are easily completed, and I can focus on a single theme.  These books are also wonderful to make with children.  They are very inexpensive, and if one gets messed up, you can just start over with no harm done!

Bone folder

Instructions:

1.                Lay the bags one on top of the other so that the openings alternate sides.  Lay the bottom bag with the opening facing right, middle bagwith the opening facing left, and the top bag with the opening facing right.  Fold all 3 bags together down the middle forming a booklet.

2.                Separate the bags, and with the bone folder, press the creases to a sharp fold.  Measure ¾ inch from either side of the fold and score.  You will have 2 score lines on each bag.  Make sharp folds again with your bone folder.  Reassemble the book.

3.                Mark the left side of the top fold with 5 dots as placement for your holes.  Drill all 5 holes.  Tie ribbon through the holes.  Your book is now assembled and ready to decorate.

4.                Each of the pages will be 3-1/5” x 5”.  Cut your cardstock to this size and decorate each page as desired with stamps, photographs and embellishments.    Adhere these finished pages to the book.

5.                Your book will have 3 openings that are the tops of the lunch sacks.  Measure and cut 3 pieces of cardstock 7-1/5” x 5”.  Fold in half to form a booklet.  Cut, score, and fold 3 tabs from coordinating cardstock with the Sizzix tab die cut.  Attach a tab to the top right of the front of the first booklet, middle right front of the second, and bottom right front of the third.  Add photos to both the cover and insides.  Embellish as desired.

6.                In my example, I added 3 journaling tags that are tucked inside the fold made from the base of the paper bag.  To make the tags, cut a piece of cardstock to 3-1/2” x 5”.  Punch a circle from coordinating cardstock.   Cut a slit that is ¾” wide x ¼” from the top of the tag where you want the tab to go.  Fold the circles in half and slip through the opening so the fold of the circle piece is under the slit and adhere the 2 sides of the circle together.  Stamp the word “PULL” on each tab.   To insert the tags into the book, cut a slit into the base of the paper bag.  The slit will run the entire length of the page.

7.                Your bag is now done and ready to enjoy!!  If you have trouble with the ribbons coming apart, you can add a dab of fabric glue under each ribbon above where they are knotted.
