Instructions:

1.  Cut the brown cardstock and the printed paper for you layout.

2.  Trim your pictures and cut mats out of brown and black accordingly.

3.  Adhere the pictures to the mats.

Soot Instructions:

a.  You will be using the glossy paper for this technique.  This is a very important step.  Matte finished cardstock will just burn.

b.  Hold the glossy side of the cardstock towards the flame of the candle or lighter.  You will want the flame to touch the paper but do not hold it there.  You want to move it slowly across the paper letting the soot accumulate on the paper.  Some papers take the soot better than others so this is a trial and error on how long it takes.  Be patient and be careful not to burn yourself.  You will want to get a good coat of soot on your paper so your image will show up nicely.  DO NOT get your fingerprints on the glossy side in the soot…it will take the soot off leaving a nice fingerprint that will not take the soot again.

c.  Once you get the paper dark enough.  Stamp the snake image from the Eclectic Critters set onto the soot paper.  Do not use any ink on your stamp.  Be sure to wash the stamp afterwards to get the soot off the stamp.

4.  Tear the brown and black scraps the size you need for your soot stamped image.  Put brads in the top and bottom of the black/brown cardstock.  Adhere the image to the strips.

5.  With the alphabet stamps; stamp your words on the tag punch. Use a piece of patterned paper scrap and stamp on of your words on it to add to the tag.   Use the Vintage photo distress ink and stipple on top of the tag.  Punch hole in top of tag and put a brad in the hole.

6.  Adhere your photos, image and tag to your layout papers using your best judgment for eye appeal.

Enjoy this great technique and your layout!
