Tye Dye Imprints

By Wanda Troupe

I just love this technique. It’s quick, easy and beautiful! Your results will vary with the amount of water you spritz the marker scribbles. The more water you use, the lighter the colors and the more marbled your results will be. I used regular white cardstock in this sample, but if you use glossy cardstock you will get slightly different results. Be sure and try it with other color combinations.

Instructions

1.                            Stamp small snowflake images using lavender dye ink onto background of lavender 12”x12” cardstock. Stamp same snowflake images onto background of 8.5”x11” blue cardstock using blue dye ink. Glue blue cardstock to lavender cardstock aligning all the way to the right side.

2.                            Cut a 4”x12” strip of white cardstock freehand with scissors so that you have a wavy edge and slide under glass mat. With blue and lavender markers, scribble onto glass mat using the cardstock underneath as a guide. Remove strip from under glass mat and spritz marker scribbles with water. Place white strip face down on scribbles pressing with fingers to get color on all areas. Gently blot cardstock strip with paper towel to absorb any excess water. Dry glass mat and set aside.

3.                            When tie dyed strip is dry, stamp small snowflake images on background using the same blue and lavender dye inks. Glue vertically onto background overlapping blue cardstock.

4.                            Mat picture with 5.5x7.5 white cardstock. Glue picture on top of all layers.

5.                            Paint Metallic Pearl paint onto foam letter stamps with paintbrush. Stamp title on background overlapping all layers. Repeat with chunky foam snowflake stamps overlapping onto picture. (This is a scanned reprinted picture on this layout. Please do not do this on an original picture if you don’t have a copy or the negative to reproduce if desired.)

6.                            Add fiber to bottom left hand corner criss-crossing and attaching with glue dots on back of 12x12 background paper.

7.                            Punch tag from cork paper. Emboss name and date with Label Buddy Embosser and add to tag. Using snowflake brad, attach to background over fiber.
