By Rita Kegg,
Magic Stampin' Bus

Supplies
Penguins stamp set (TAC T-1097)
Setting Sun stamp set (TAC  T-1078)
Coolest Snowmen stamp set  (TAC T-1178)
Noir Palette Ink Pad (TAC)
Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor Dye Ink Pad (TAC)
Half Sheet Glossy White Card Stock (TAC)
Half sheet Black Card Stock (TAC)
Strips of White Card Stock 2 by 5 1/2 inches (TAC)
Prisma Glitter (Gick Crafts~TAC)
Yes Glue (Gane Brothers & Lane, Inc.~TAC)
Marvy Glue Marker (TAC)
Brayer (TAC)
Salt (Household)
Water Spritzer
Acrylic Handles (TAC)
Mounting Tape

Instructions
1) Fold black card in half and crease.   The card is stamped in the horizontal direction.
2) Stamp the two Penguins with Noir Pallette Ink on a quarter sheet of the glossy card stock. When dry, cut them out so there is a small edge of white around the stamped images.  Apply mounting cushion on the backs.
3) Cut a piece of glossy card stock 4 ¾” by 4”.
4) Brayer with Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor by loading the brayer and rolling it repeatedly over the pad to load the ink. Next, roll the brayer over the cardstock until you have an even appearance in color.
5) Spritz the glossy paper with the Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor Ink on it with water and shake table salt over the paper so the salt is evenly spaced on the card stock. Lightly spritz the paper again with water.
6) Let the glossy paper with salt dry completely (a few hours), then brush off the extra salt. The salt will pull the moisture to it and cause a texture to appear.
7) Stamp the blue salt paper with the Noir black ink using Setting Sun and the words ‘snow friends’ at the top left corner.
8) Glue this, with the Yes glue, to the front of the folded black card stock.  This will provide an even border on the right and left sides with only a small amount of the black showing at the top of the card.
9) Tear the two stripes of white card stock by pulling it towards you.  Layer these on top of the card front so the rough torn edge is facing up, and they look like drifts of snow. Glue in place with the Yes glue.
10) Apply the Marvy Glue Marker on the torn edges of the white stripe and randomly on the rest of the area.  Sprinkle on the Prisma Glitter and shake off the rest.  This will look like snow.
11) Attach the Penguins with the mounting tap to finish your card.

Suggestions for Salt backgrounds:
1) You can use all types of ink: dye, pigments, walnut inks, etc.
2) Glossy card stock works the best, but it can be done on other types of paper, also.
3) The ink can be distributed with a brayer, sponge, stipple brush, or the direct to paper approach straight from the ink pad.
4) This technique usually works best if you let the paper with the salt on it dry naturally instead of using a heat gun.
